Heavy or stiff steering

Usually caused by
A worn pump, low fluid or a slipping drive belt. If it's heavy first thing in the morning and frees up once the car is warm, the control valve in the rack is worn.
What we do
Pressure-test the pump and the rack separately, so you only pay to replace the part that has actually failed.

Why us

Why bring it to a steering specialist

  • Steering is our specialty

Steering racks, steering boxes, pumps and hoses are what this workshop is set up for. That means the right test gear and a diagnosis you can rely on the first time.

  • A quote before any work

We find the fault, give you a written quote and wait for your go-ahead. No hidden charges and no surprises on the invoice.

  • Fixed properly, once

We don't do patch-ups. No stop-leak additives and no band-aid repairs that have you back in a few months. If we fix it, it's fixed properly.

  • Realistic timeframes

We know you need the car. You get a timeframe before you commit and a phone call if anything changes.

  • Warranty on our work

Every repair is covered by a written warranty for 12 months or 20,000 km, whichever comes first.

  • 30+ years in the trade

Decades of hands-on steering work across the Albury-Wodonga region. Exact wording to be confirmed.

How it works

Three steps to steering you can trust

  1. Call or send a quote request

Tell us the car and what the steering is doing. We can often tell you the likely cause over the phone.

  2. Drop it in for assessment

We test the system, pin down the fault and call you with a quote. Nothing gets done until you say yes.

  3. Drive away confident

The repair is done and warranted, and we walk you through what was replaced and why.

Common questions

Before you call

How much does a power steering repair cost?

It depends on the fault. A hose or a fluid service sits at the low end and a rack rebuild or replacement at the high end. We diagnose it first and give you a written quote, so you know the cost before any work starts.

How long will my car be off the road?

That depends on the repair and on parts. You'll get a realistic timeframe with your quote, before you commit to anything.

I've been told I need a new rack. Is that always necessary?

Not always. We test the system first, because a pump or hose fault can look like a rack fault. If the rack is the problem, we rebuild or replace it properly. We won't patch it.

Can you do a cheap fix just to get me by?

No. We don't do patch-ups on steering. A temporary fix usually fails again and costs you twice, so we quote the repair that actually solves the problem and stand behind it.

Can you fix my make and model?

Yes. We work on all makes and models, including European, Japanese, Korean and Australian vehicles, 4WDs and commercials, with hydraulic power steering.

Do you repair electric power steering?

No. We work on hydraulic systems, the kind with a pump and fluid. If your car has electric power steering, which has no fluid reservoir under the bonnet, it needs a different repairer.

Is it safe to keep driving with a steering fault?

Treat it as urgent. A leak can empty the system and leave you with very heavy steering without warning, and play or knocking means a worn joint. If you're unsure, call and describe it before you drive far.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes, all repairs come with a written warranty for 12 months or 20,000 km, whichever comes first.
